We get it, you want to eat healthy and feel healthy, but the idea of meal prepping can feel so daunting and redundant.  No one wants to feel tired of eating the same food again and again, so we’re here to show you it doesn’t have to be that way.  At Hottinger Family Meats we want to share with you a variety of lean meats we have in store to help you with a successful meal plan.  So let’s get to it!

Firstly, let’s talk about the best lean meats.  Boneless and skinless chicken, top sirloin ground beef, ground turkey, ground lamb, bisons steaks, pork tenderloin, flank steak, lean lunch meats (turkey breast, ham, or roast beef) and low-fat beef jerky.

Tips for Choosing the Right Cut of Meat for Meal Prep

When it comes to meal prepping with meat, it's important to choose cuts that are easy to prepare, have a long shelf life and reheat well. For example, chicken breast is a great choice because it's lean and easy to cook in bulk. Minced beef is also a great option because it can work in a variety of dishes, from spaghetti bolognese to cottage pie. Pork tenderloin and beef sirloin are also great choices for meal prep, as they are lean and easy to slice into portions. At our shop, we provide frozen 1lb chubs of all these ground meats and deli meats can be sliced by the lb.

How to Properly Store and Preserve Meat for Meal Prep

Proper storage and preservation are key to keeping your meats fresh and safe to eat.  Let us know you’d like them wrapped in our freezer safe butcher paper if need be.  When you receive your meat products from our shop, be sure to refrigerate or freeze the meat as soon as possible. If you're not planning to use it within a couple of days, it's best to freeze it by wrapping it tightly in plastic wrap or our freezer paper to prevent freezer burn. It's also important to label the meat with the date it was frozen so you know how long it's been in the freezer.

Maximizing the Shelf Life of Meat for Meal Prep

When it comes to maximizing the shelf life of your meat, proper storage is key. Always keep meat in the coldest part of your refrigerator, typically the back or bottom. Also, be sure to cook meat within the recommended time frame for best quality and safety. When it comes to meal prepping, it's a good idea to cook and portion out the meat at the beginning of the week so it's ready to go when you need it. This will also help prevent food waste.
